Pennsylvania's Lt. Gov.-elect John Fetterman had a stroke in May. His TV interview with Dr. Oz appeared to show him having auditory processing issues. He says he'll be much better in January and that Oz will still be a "fraud".

NBC News agreed to use closed captioning technology during the interview. Viewers can clearly see behind the screen reading the questions as they come. Fetterman: Every now and then I'll miss a word. Every now, every now, sometimes I'll mush two words together.

He said he expects to be "much better" by January and that Oz is "still going to be a fraud". Without captioning, it wasn't clear if he was understanding most of the conversation.

The Daily Beast's Fetterman says his team was the first to be in the room with John Fetterman for an interview. Other journalists have said he didn't appear to have comprehension difficulties during that interview. "We can only report our own [experience]," Burns told Today on Wednesday.

The candidate says he is "able to serve" and that his medical records are up-to-date. His opponent, Mehmet Oz, is yet to comment on the stunt. The Democrat leads in the polls and will face off against Oz in an Oct. 25 debate.

Political commentator Adam Jentleson: "I'm biased but when I watch the clip I see a guy recovering and recovering overcoming a challenge". It was a "bold but wise" strategy to have Fetterman do interviews, political strategist Jeff Timmer says.
