Will Justin Fields become more assertive for the Chicago Bears?

The Chicago Bears have not been the most aggressive this season. They are throwing the football at the lowest clip in the NFL. It appears as though they are being beaten into the head of Justin Fields not to be aggressive when it comes to throwing the ball out of the end zone.

Justin Fields is last in the NFL in aggressive throw rate. NextGenStats tracks aggressive throws, which are throws into tight windows. Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson are all at 11% on aggressive throws. Jameis Winston and Mitch Trubisky are at 25% and 23%.

Fields had a 17% aggressive throw, which may have been leaning too high. The coaching staff are having him bowl with the bumpers on now so that he does not get too close to the gutter. It appears as though Fields is taking the extra half second, and it is costing him.

The Chicago Bears coaching staff wanted to reel in a passer who was leaning too aggressively last season, but now he is playing a bit too conservatively. If that can happen, you could see him thoughtfully aggressive, which is what leads to the big plays, and the chain movers.

The second-year quarterback established career highs with a 118.8 passer rating and 71.4 percent completion percentage in last Sunday's 29-22 loss to the Vikings. All four of Washington's starting defensive linemen are first-round draft picks.

Quarterback Carson Wentz has thrown for more than 300 yards in three of his five starts this season. The Bears are one of just seven NFL defenses with more interceptions than TD passes. Jaylon Johnson is expected to return after missing the last three games.

The Bears have allowed 56 points in the second quarter and 50 in the other three periods combined. Getting off to a fast start has been a major topic of conversation heading into Thursday night's game.

The Bears are the only NFL team with more yards on the ground than through the air. They have three players with at least 175 yards rushing. Khalil Herbert has 56 carries for 328 yards and three TDs.
